Tijuana, Mexico 2018

In December 2018, thousands of migrants who had been camped at the US/Mexico border were relocated inland into a former dance hall, now called the Barretal Refugee Camp. The camp has minimal services or aid, the conditions are extremely unsafe (particularly for women and children), unsanitary, and inhumane. Due to the overcrowded proximity of people combined with a lack of sanitation, infrastructure or medical services, there are early outbreaks of tuberculosis, typhoid, smallpox, and influenza. We continued with our portrait project "The Power of Faces: Looking at the Global Refugee Crisis", where we take and distribute proper portraits of vulnerable populations to show them as individuals, not merely the label as "refugee".
